2007-2008 - 21st Anniversary Season
Celebrates 21 Years of Enriching the Cultural Experience Of the Community with Beautiful Music
The Henderson Symphony Orchestra has reached a true musical milestone with over twenty continuous years of bringing beautiful music to the community, an achievement unmatched by any other symphonic group in our valley.
Known as the Henderson Civic Symphony for 19 years, this dedicated group of all-volunteer musicians is now the Henderson Symphony Orchestra. In 1987 the group had a meager beginning with a mere four musicians. Now twenty years later, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra is composed of 65 talented instrumentalists including students, professionals, educators and retirees - people of all ages - from all walks of life - who share a common passion for music and devote hours each week to creating it together. It is a tradition that has continued for over two decades with weekly rehearsals and at least nine concerts each season.
The repertoire, concert schedule and performance venues have varied and evolved throughout the history of this long-standing community orchestra. Light-classics, musicals, movie music and pops repertoire still appear in the groups outdoor performances at the Boulder City Art Fair, City of Henderson's ArtFest and Henderson's Music Under the Stars series. Now with the continuing growth in the orchestra's musical caliber, the bulk of the symphony's season is dedicated to challenging, educating and inspiring audiences with a plethora of classical music genres. The Henderson Symphony Orchestra's regular performance venues for concerts include the Valley View Recreation Center and the city's new Events Plaza Amphitheatre in downtown Henderson as well as the beautiful outdoor Pavilion at Liberty Pointe in Green Valley in addition to other venues.
The Henderson Symphony Orchestra continues to receive generous support from the City of Henderson's Cultural Arts and Tourism but now as an independent non-profit organization the group can accept other donations and play in venues across the valley. The Henderson Symphony Orchestra has also partnered with the Nevada Community Foundation through creation of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra Fund which accepts the generous donations of concert patrons and philanthropists in our community. These contributions along with support from the City of Henderson are the orchestra's sole means of funding.
Under the musical direction of its internationally trained conductor and musical director, Taras Krysa, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra has a heightened level of commitment to musical excellence and exploration - while at the same time continuing to enrich the cultural experience of the community by offering inspiring musical experiences for audiences free of charge as it has done for twenty years.
