The Henderson Symphony Orchestra has an impressive list of past guest artists and soloists.
The following list includes the regular season concert soloists. It does not include all of
the many young artists who have performed with the orchestra, nor does it include all summer concert soloists.
We apologize for any omissions to this list.
Henderson Symphony Orchestra - Master Series II: An Evening of Brahms
Guest Artist: Mykola Suk
Pianist, Mykola Suk has concertized in solo recitals, as a soloist with major orchestras under
leading conductors (recently with the Russian National Symphony under Mikhail Pletnev), and at
chamber music festivals throughout the former USSR, North America, Europe, the Middle East,
Australia and Asia. Mr. Suk has recorded for the Melodya, Russian Disc, Hungaraton, Melda and
Troppe Note/Cambria labels.
Mykola Suk is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Professor Suk studied at the Kiev Special Music School, and at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev
Vlasenko. In 1971 he received the First Prize and Gold Medal at the International Liszt-Bartok
Competition in Budapest. Professor Suk has formerly been on the faculties of the Kiev and Moscow
Conservatories, the New England Conservatory in Boston, and Columbia University.
Mr. Suk is currently managed by Shupp Artists. The American Record Guide has referred to his
pianistic mastery as, "An astonishing blend of muscular power, poetry and utter control he will
prove to be one of the more formidable talents to have appeared in this country in years."
The following are additional accolades for Mykola Suk's expertise on the piano: "powerful and
pearl-like playing" (Wiener Zeitung), his "immense talent of tone coloring" (Le Soleil, Quebec),
his "enormous digital control" (Toronto Star) and his ability to "transform virtuosity into poetry
of the mind" (Keskisumalainen, Finland) have earned him comparisons with some of the great pianists
of all time. "One soon understood why he has been compared to Richter it appeared as if, with
his playing, Mykola Suk would set the instrument on fire," said the Trossinger Zeitung, and "surely
the most towering and volcanic talent to have come out of Russia since Anton Rubenstein," said the
European Piano Teacher's Journal.
