Musicians - Member Spotlight - 2012-2013 Season
Chad W. Mickey was raised in Dodge City, Kansas where he had no choice but to play in his mother’s orchestra program.
Piano was his first instrument, quickly followed by the cello and viola. By 7th grade he was teaching himself bass to play in the jazz band. Chad eventually moved to Wichita, KS where he started touring with rock bands through the Midwest before finally earning his Bachelor of Music Education from Wichita State University in 2006.
He has been an avid performer of cello and bass with rock bands, jazz combos, and small string ensembles throughout Kansas and the Midwest. Chad has been a guest clinician for the KASTA String Romp, a conductor for the USD 259 Middle School Honor Orchestra, and a guest conductor at the International Midwest Clinic in Chicago.
He has also been a presenter at a KASTA clinic. In 2008 Chad was a member of the Lucky Thirteen, a cello ensemble that performed world premieres of several pieces at the Polish Embassy in New York City.
Previously, he was the director at Brooks Technology & Arts Magnet and the assistant of the East High School Orchestras. In 2010 he accepted the position as the Director of Orchestras for Arbor View and Centennial High Schools in Las Vegas, NV and plays cello with the Henderson Symphony.
Outside of music, he is also an auto enthusiast having rebuilt his ’57 Chevy and currently working on a ’56 Chevy.
Chad and his wife, Bethany, are expecting their first baby girl, this January.
